Honors Institute / AP Capstone

The mission of the Bishop Alemany Honors Institute is to provide a rigorous and motivating program that will stretch and challenge the school’s most able students. It provides a learning environment in which these students can reach their full potential.

 

 

Students enrolled in the Honors Institute study a discrete program of courses designed to help them prepare for the most academically rigorous Colleges in the world. They complete a range of AP courses, and all non-AP courses are taken at Honors level. Students may complete a challenging academic program that culminates with the College Board’s AP Capstone Diploma.

 

 

The AP Capstone is an innovative diploma program that helps students stand out in the college application process. It is a challenging program that deepens a student’s passion for learning, enhances their academic skills, and provides a broader perspective on the world. Bishop Alemany High School is one of only two High Schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles that has been selected by the College Board to offer this program.

 

AP Capstone is built on the foundation of two courses — AP Seminar and AP Research — and is designed to complement and enhance the in-depth, discipline-specific study provided through AP courses. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing will receive the AP Capstone Diploma™. This signifies their outstanding academic achievement and attainment of college-level academic and research skills. Alternatively, students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research will receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™ signifying their attainment of college-level academic and research skills.
