The game plan was simple for the Alemany of Mission Hills girls' basketball team in a first-round Southern Section Div. IV-AA playoff game against visiting Oak Park Thursday.

The Warriors wanted to apply pressure defense all over the court, create turnovers and force bad shots.

The goal was to get in transition for easy buckets.

The plan worked to perfection as Alemany advanced to the second round with a 58-38 victory, using a 7-0 run to end the first half to take control, then pulling away over the last two quarters.

"Basically we just wanted to speed the game up and get some easy baskets," said Alemany (18-9) coach Jeff Cammon. "Just get as many easy baskets as possible."

Oak Park tied the game at 15-15 with five minutes left in the first half, but after an Alemany timeout the Warriors scored the next seven points to lead 29-18 at the half.

"There wasn't anything unexpected tonight," said Alemany's Ashley Bautista. "We just wanted to play our game and stay fundamentally sound. If we do that we feel; good about our chances."

Maya Sotello scored 14 points for Alemany, including three 3-pointers.
