The teams of Jessie Buth /Bianca Walters and Pascal Varni/Mark Walther came out swinging and were both victorious in their opening rounds against more experienced teams. The teams participated in an event called parliamentary debate wherein the teams are given a topic to debate only thirty minutes before the round begins. The team has to interpret the topic, craft arguments in favor of their position and then engage in verbal battle with the opposition for close to an hour. Competitors are judged on the content of their arguments and points scored during the verbal exchange. Confrontations can get high spirited and very competitive. The Alemany teams exceeded their expectation in this tournament and we look forward to a very successful season. The next event is at UCLA in December and then it's off to the state tournament at UC Berkeley in February.
