Students attending LeadAmerica programs are academically talented and inherently motivated; they are nominated for attendance at the programs based on established academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and strong leadership potential. Edgar learned first-hand about broadcast journalism, print journalism and the challenges and opportunities in the emerging field of new media. He successfully participated in a hands-on curriculum and simulation that afforded an opportunity to practice the skills of graphic layout design, statistics verification and research, reporting, and photo journalism through the production of a digital newspaper or magazine, through this program, he was able to create his own magazine.
Edgar was able to visit the NY Film Academy and was a guest on the CBS Early Show. On his NYC tour, he visited Time Square, Ground Zero, Rockefeller Center, Manhattan Mall, Battery Park, Liberty Island, Ellis Island, and the Paley Center for Media. Edgar received 5 college credits for his Media/Journalism Leadership Conference. Successful completion of the Media & Journalism curriculum requires dedication, a sense of responsibility, heightened leadership abilities, and the desire to make a difference in our world.
