Alemany of Mission Hills is known for its high-scoring offense. No big surprise, since coach Dean Herrington is a noted quarterback guru and previously served as offensive coordinator at College of the Canyons and Hart. Along the way he's brought along an assortment of quality quarterbacks, including Baltimore Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller.
But Friday night, it was Herrington's defense and special teams that made all the plays.
The Warriors (5-2) picked off Bishop Amat quarterback Nicholas Lenhart four times on their way to a 27-9 home win.
Four Alemany defenders came away with interceptions and Stanley Gonzalez recovered a fumble for a swarming Warriors defense.
Patrick McKernon led the Warriors on an 80-yard drive within the first three minutes of the game to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead.
Antonio Bray scored on a 14-yard run to cap the drive, then added a 35-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. The sophomore ran seven times for 68 yards, 54 of them coming in the second half.
McKernon completed 16-of-21 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.
