The Bishop Alemany Speech and Debate team traveled to Stanford University on Feb. 5-8 for the Stanford Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament. This invitational tournament is one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year and is attended by some of the best teams from across the county. The Alemany "Word Warriors" enjoyed the high level of competition and did us proud. Sophomore parliamentary debate veterans Mark Walther and Jesse Marquez fought hard and advanced all the way to the fifth round of competition. Katarina Flavin was stellar in "spar" and received some of the highest "speaker points" awarded. Pascal Varni and Chelsea Parker were brilliant in "impromptu" and also made it to the advanced rounds. Seniors Robert Littrell and Brenden Varni made their final appearance and were impressive as well. All in all it was one of the most successful performances by our team. The team also took some time to do some sightseeing at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. We look forward to the Lions Club Speech Contest next month and hope to repeat last year's success wherein Alemany took first, second and third place. Go Speech and Debate !!!!
